Three of the Very Common Foot Ailments You Need to be On the Lookout For
When it comes to your health, you can never be too careful. You have to always be on the alert for warning signs when they arrive and address them early. This applies to your feet, too! Here are three common foot problems you may want to ask your pediatric podiatrist, or foot doctor, about if you detect them:
1. Athlete’s Foot
Athlete’s foot is a very, very common cause of foot pain in young males. Almost a fourth of all Americans will experience athlete’s foot in their lifetime! It is characterized by small fissures in the skin of the feet as well as itchy, flaking skin in those areas. It is a type of fungal infection that can and should be treated early before any further damage is caused. A foot doctor can bring foot pain relief in no time!
2. Hammer Toe
This is a type of foot deformity that can occur when there is an issue with a person’s joint. It ultimately causes the toe to be permanently bent. This is something that must be caught early to be treated; sometimes corrective shoes can be enough to avoid permanent deformity, but later on surgery becomes a more necessary alternative. Be sure to be on the lookout for any sort of foot pain or discomfort that could be a sign for this!
3. Diabetes
This is not an exclusively foot-related issue, but this issue can cause foot problems. Diabetic patients can oftentimes experience foot pain, swelling, and numbness on a regular basis. These issues will not go away untreated, so it’s important to contact a pediatric podiatrist immediately! What will you do to take care of your feet? More on this topic.
